The need to promote sustainable development first mentioned in 1992 in UNFCCC, but nothing done to implement in practice.
Climate change and SD remained separate discourses.
PROBLEM might arise if anyone has identified that SD now to be integrated as cross-theme idea.
Although no only now at Bali being put forward. Could counter if it has not gained more prominence in over a decade, its time to be HONEST.
There are over 100 definitions SD - social construction explaining the number of constructions
Wilkinson and Cary (2003) propose - sustainability is a idealistic and unattainable , a better approach would be to start with unsustainablity since it is a known point - from here improved knowledge and understanding will lead to progressively less unsustainable states

on the news yesterday they were talking about kyoto and thought this was quite nice for us.
Kyoto aimed at a 5% reduction in emissions, by the time kyoto finishes will be around an 11% reduction, so could argue we have met and beaten targets. However if u add US and Australia emissions to these figures, we have not met the 5% reduction at all. even tho Australia has now ratified Kyoto i would argue its too late to meet the 5% reduction target. Therefore what has kyoto done??
